Adam Opel’s pioneering spirit continues to shape the industrial location of Rüsselsheim to this day. The structural change in the automobile industry was also accompanied by the development of new jobs in the areas of design as well as research and development (R&D). Today, Rüsselsheim is home to companies in different industries like medical technology, the digital economy, energy technology, and logistics. Its core continues to be formed by the future-oriented automotive industry. With Opel, as well as the design and development center from Hyundai/Kia, and a considerable number of suppliers, or highly specialized – even medium-sized – service providers, Rüsselsheim has developed into an internationally known automotive location with R&D-oriented cross-sectional competencies.
Opel itself has always made automobile innovations available to broad social strata and is therefore actively confronting the transformation that the entire automobile industry faces.

Hochschule RheinMain is renowned for its professional job training, as well as for its application-oriented research. The department of engineering in Rüsselsheim is the largest of all five departments with altogether 13,000 students. Its over 70 study programs are continuously developed.
